While you journey across Hyrule in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, you’ll find yourself completing plenty of side quests for the NPCs you meet. One quest, named Home on Arrange, is purely for Link’s enjoyment — he can build his dream home with the help of Hudson Construction.
Similar to the Hylian Homeowner quest in Breath of the Wild, you can customize the house, but there’s a lot more you can do with the house in Tears of the Kingdom. Arrange the rooms however you like, create a paddock for your horse, and more.
How To Get A House
To get your own house in Tears of the Kingdom, you’ll need to speak with Rhondson in Tarrey Town, located in the Akkala Highlands, north of Zora’s Domain.
Rhondson can be found at the Hudson Construction reception desk — the lower floor of the house with two cardboard cutouts of Hudson outside it.
To begin the quest, you’ll need to have completed the Mattison’s Independence Side Adventure first.
If you haven’t, Rhondson will tell you that she’s busy helping her daughter right now, but will get back to her business making dream homes afterwards.
You can begin the quest by talking to Hudson, who will be nearby.
After completing the quest, talk to Rhondson, and she’ll offer you a plot of land at a discounted rate of 1,500 rupees as a thank-you gift for helping her family.
If you don’t have enough rupees on you, you can sell items to the town’s shopkeepers.
Purchase the land to begin the Home on Arrange quest. Rhondson will then point towards the location of the land you bought. It’s right next to the Rasitakiwak Shrine.
How To Build Your House
Travel to the shrine and paraglide down to the patch of land below you. Speak to the NPC, Grantéson, behind the Hudson Construction desk. He’ll tell you that your contract includes two rooms — a Foyer and a Bedroom.
Once Grantéson finishes with the introductions, you’ll enter Building mode, where you can use Ultrahand to move each room into the area inside the ropes.
The open sides of the rooms are covered in nets during the building process, but once you place them and Grantéson completes the inspection, these will disappear.
Speak to Grantéson when you’re done and he’ll do a safety inspection.
The rooms must be cleanly within the roped-off area without touching the ropes, or you’ll fail the inspection and need to rearrange them.
When Grantéson is happy that you’ve arranged the rooms safely, you’ll complete the Home on Arrange quest and be able to walk inside the rooms you’ve placed.
How To Customize Your House
While the main quest has been completed, you can customize your home further. Speak to Grantéson once again and select “I’ll start building.”
When you’re in Building mode, talk to Grantéson and select “I need more rooms.” Then, select “I’ll buy or preview rooms!” Here, you can purchase a range of rooms to use for your home.

You can purchase multiples of the same room, but you can only use 15 rooms at a time.
Purchase all the rooms you want and end the conversation with Grantéson. The rooms will appear next to the stall, outside of the roped area, ready for you to use.
Once they’re all placed and arranged, speak with Grantéson again to perform the inspection and finish.
General Design Tips
You have a lot of freedom when it comes to designing your house, but you might struggle to get the hang of it when you first get started. Here are the basics to help you make Link’s dream home a reality.
If you already have a design that you like, manually save before you start making adjustments to your house.
This way, you can easily revert to the original design if you don’t like the changes you made.
How To Connect Rooms
To make the rooms inside your house connect, you’ll need to make sure the netted sides of the rooms line up.
If the room has a solid wall in Building mode, it will have this when you finish too, and you won’t be able to walk through every room if two of these walls line up.
A good way to avoid protruding walls is to have a large room with multiple netted sides in the center (the Furnished Square Room is great for this) and connect smaller rooms to its open sides.
Attaching rooms with Ultrahand can be a little finicky.
They don’t need to line up exactly, but your house might look a little wonky if they don’t.
You may need to attach, detach, and reattach to get the rooms to attach nicely.
Additionally, not all the rooms you add need to be attached. As long as they’re within the roped boundary, they’ll pass the inspection.
How To Create A Second Floor
To create a second floor in your house, you’ll need to purchase the Indoor Stairs.
Attach the Indoor Stairs’ netted side to the netted side of a ground-floor room with a long side that’s the same length. (Again, the Square Room or Furnished Square Room is ideal here.)
The upper part of the stairs has a netted side that you can attach more rooms to. For a simple upper floor, you can attach the netted side of the Bedroom.
How To Make A Rooftop Garden
To make a rooftop garden, you’ll need a decent-sized ground floor (so that you can place rooms on top of it), the Indoor Stairs, a second Foyer, and a Flower Bed.
First, place the Indoor Stairs at the back of the house, attached to the netted side of the ground-floor back room.
Head to the roof of your house and attach the Foyer to the upper portion of the Indoor Stairs.
Grab the Flower Bed and place it on the roof in front of the Foyer. Now, you can access the rooftop garden through the Indoor Stairs and Foyer.
How To Store Spare Rooms
If you purchase a room and don’t want to use it right now, you can store it with Grantéson.
When you’re in Building mode, place the building outside of the roped area, but make sure it doesn’t make contact with the ropes. It will automatically go to your stored rooms.
To use the room again, speak to Grantéson, select “I need more rooms” and then “I’ll use a stored room” to view all your spare rooms.
